Cramped Tables?

So I have a rhetorical question to pose; why do venues always put more people at a table than they should? Within the past month I have been a guest at two different weddings in which I was sitting at an 8 person round table but with 10 people. I understand that the more people a venue can cram at one table, the guest list can be larger, and more money can be made from the cost of food service. But more often than not it makes a great evening somewhat uncomfortable for the guests at that table. So, if you are booking a venue ask them what size tables they use and make them give you a legitimate number for your guest list. Do not be afraid to push the issue, it is your event and believe me the guests that do make the list will thank you for it.
